Welcome and Course Overview

In this module, we will dip our toes into the science basics: biology, biochemistry, and genetics.

But don't worry if you failed every science course in school. These educational modules are distilled down to the basics, simplified, and entertaining. The intent of this module is twofold. 

The first is to give you the tools that you will need to fully understand what drives your health. This will provide a foundation that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. These are skills and concepts that will not only help you to guide your health, but that of your family and community.

The second is to support you with scientific concepts, as our understanding of our natural world expands. With this skillset, you will be able to follow evolving concepts and understand for yourself what information is quality-- and what is suspect. You are learning to have full agency over your health.

The Energetics module addresses how our body accesses and utilizes energy in nature. The triad of energetic hormones, cortisol, insulin, and thyroid, has allowed us to survive on this planet for hundreds of thousands of years.

The Energetics Triad is critical to our health, our survival, and is a strong contributor to our contemporary health, wellness, and longevity.

Week 3: Energetics

In this module, we will review the lab results. If you have followed all of the lessons and the B|E|M teachings, you are well prepared to review and understand your lab work. You now have all the science that you need to understand the results and what they mean for your health.

This will take a bit of focus, so we've made the B|E|Ms a little more "playful" to accommodate the work required. There's a bit of work here; you may want to extend this module into another week. You'll still be on track for a rapid transformation.

Several modules remain to finish out the other components of the body's workings: the gut, detoxification, inflammation, heart, and brain. 

You can always go back and review some of the science modules to this point. They are clearly labeled on your curriculum taskbar on the left.

This module is all about barriers, protection, and defense. We may think of ourselves as alpha predators-- but we're not. Our bodies are continually being attacked by the microbial world. 

Effectively, we are microbial "prey." We are filled with fats, sugars and amino acids that the microbes would love to access for their own biological processes. However, we need to maintain solid barriers against this microbial world while maintaining the ability to get food, nutrients and liquids across these barriers. As with so many things in nature, it's a balancing act.

In this module, we will explore how the gut and underlying immune surveillance keep us safe-- and the steps that we can take to support these defense mechanisms in return.

Week 5: Barriers

You've measured your nutrients, you've considered how your body collects and stores energy, and you've learned to tie all of this together with the gut function.

We've seen how we've become toxic across our barriers. It would make sense that we would similarly detoxify across these same barriers. Thus, we need a working gut, skin, lungs, and kidneys. 

All of the supporting Pyramid structures work to support the subsequent layer of the Pyramid. Detoxification requires important nutrients like cysteine and B vitamins. It requires energetics to drive the pathways. And it requires intact barriers across which to detoxify.

To some degree, we are all toxic-- you'll see that we even need to detoxify molecules that our body makes.

You are building a supported "house" of health. Here's where we leearn how take out the trash.

Week 6: Detoxification

In this chapter, we arrive at the summit of the Health Systems Pyramid. These two organs ultimately reflect our composite, whole-body health.

With a clear mind, and strong heart, and a healthy vascular system, we can move through the world with focus, direction and energy.

We're in the home stretch of the i.heal course. In the next few weeks, you'll notice a larger emphasis on the B|E|M practices and less of the hard sciences.
